Summer can mean high prices, but some destinations still offer excellent value for luxury stays. Here is where to look.
Where value is strongest in summer
In the northern summer, southern Europe is expensive and crowded. Some regions are cheaper because of weather or demand.
- Bali and Indonesia (dry season): June to September is the dry season, with strong demand but still good pricing for villas.
- Vietnam and Thailand (rainy season): Hotels often cut prices. You may get showers, but also lush scenery.
- Morocco in the mountains: Cooler than the plains. Riads and lodges in the Atlas offer comfort and views.
- Eastern Europe: Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia offer boutique hotels and spas at modest prices.
- Mexico's Pacific coast: Rainy season brings lower rates in some resorts.
Spotting a good deal
- Compare the total price, including taxes and resort fees.
- Check cancellation terms.
- Look at what is included: breakfast, spa access, airport transfer.
- Read recent reviews about service and cleanliness.
Trade-offs
Lower prices often mean weather risks, fewer services or limited opening of restaurants. Ask the hotel what to expect.
Booking tip
Book directly or compare several sites. Some properties offer perks for direct bookings.
Prices and weather vary each year, so check before you commit.
